Your first appointment will be scheduled as a 90-minute behavior consultation* via Zoom!
During the consultation we will discuss a LOT of information, including:
- Your dog's history (you will need to complete a Client History Form before we schedule your first appointment!)
- Current behavioral concerns (if any)
- Core concepts for creating a successful training and/or behavior modification plan
- An overview of how behavior works
- Short & Long Term training goals
- Variables that will influence your dog's overall progress/success with training
- Your role in the training process and how your behavior affects your dog's behavior
- A brief summary of what to expect during upcoming training lessons, including recommendations for moving forward with additional training lessons
- Steps for getting started on your dog's training plan
Why is there so much to talk about prior to hands-on training? Successful training plans require planning prior to implementation!
After the initial behavior consultation is completed, you may enroll your dog in a Board & Train Program, or schedule additional private training lessons.
During each lesson you will be provided with information about how to achieve desired behavior(s), how to best apply suggested training techniques, and how to improve your skills as a handler in order to maximize results. Your participation in your dog’s training plan is a critical part of the process, and will help to ensure lasting behavioral changes in your dog!
Additional Information
- Private Training Lessons are typically 60 minutes each. Shorter lesson duration (i.e. 30-45 minutes) may be recommended, depending on the goal(s) for that appointment.
- Recommended frequency of lessons, will depend on several variables, including:
- The amount of time that you are willing (and able) to invest in working with your dog each day/week, in between training lessons.
- Scheduling availability.
- Overall Training Goals (Short Term & Long Term).
- How quickly you and your dog progress through each step of your lesson plan.
- Your budget for training lessons.
- Recommended lesson location will depend on several variables, including:
- The specific behavior(s) to be worked on during a specific appointment.
- Whether or not a particular location is appropriate for your dog's current level of training as well as your own current skillset as a handler.
- Specific environmental conditions that may be necessary to create the best teaching/learning opportunities for you and your dog.
A starting point will be discussed during the initial behavior consultation, after we have a better understanding of your specific training goals, along with relevant information about any current behavioral concerns (i.e. fearfulness, reactivity, aggression) that may make certain environments more or less ideal (for training) than others. It is important to choose an environment where you and your dog are likely to be successful in practicing desirable behaviors.
*A Behavior Consultation is required for ALL new clients (except Sport Clients).
